Kids Summer Camp

  • Ashtanaga Yoga Squamish 38018 Cleveland Avenue Squamish, BC, V8B 0A1 Canada (map)

July 27–31 | 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Ages 5–10

This week-long camp weaves together yoga, nature connection, and creative arts in a steady, supportive rhythm.

Each morning we gather at the studio before heading outdoors for traditional games and movement in nature. Late morning, we return for an Ashtanga-inspired practice where children are introduced to Surya Namaskar A & B, standing postures, forward folds, gentle backbends, and supported inversions. Through repetition and clear, simple cues, children develop proprioception, focus (drishti), confidence, and a deeper awareness of their bodies.

As the week unfolds, we gradually explore from “seed” to Ustrasana and Dhanurasana, with partner-supported Urdhva Dhanurasana offered as appropriate. Our closing sequence includes supported Shoulderstand variations, Karnapidasana, Teddy Bear stand, seated postures, and playful Padmasana preparation with Utplutihi attempts — always guided with encouragement and choice.

Afternoons invite creativity and care: flower pressing, salve making, creating a wishing tree, and dyeing t-shirts with natural plant pigments (please bring an old light-coloured tee). We will prepare tea from respectfully foraged plants and share a simple tea ritual rooted in gratitude and earth stewardship.

Throughout the week, children are supported in building kindness, cooperation, and resilience — learning to recognize their strengths while receiving guidance from teachers and encouragement from peers. We’ll share child-friendly stories of Ganesha and chant Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu (“May all beings everywhere be happy and free”), nurturing empathy and emotional awareness.

If there is interest, we may continue Kids Yoga once or twice weekly as an afterschool offering in the fall. Please let us know if this would support your child.

SAFETY AND CARE

All postures are introduced progressively, with options and hands-on support when appropriate. Inversions and backbends are supported and never forced. Foraging is supervised and limited to clearly identified, safe native plants. Children remain within visual boundaries during outdoor walks, with sun safety, hydration, and regular breaks prioritized each day.
