Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga?

Mysore style is the traditional way of teaching Ashtanga yoga, named after the city in India where the practice was originally taught. Rather than following a teacher through a group-led sequence, each student practices the postures they have already learned at their own pace, while the teacher moves through the room offering individual guidance. It is a quiet, self-paced practice built on trishtana: breath, posture, and gazing point.

Is Ashtanga yoga good for beginners?

Yes. Ashtanga yoga is accessible to everyone, and each student is considered individually rather than expected to keep pace with a group. Mysore classes are ideal for beginners, or you can start with our foundations workshop. New students are taught the beginning of the sequence one posture at a time, and the practice grows gradually as the body and breath are ready.

What should I bring to my first class?

A yoga mat and a towel are enough to begin. Filtered water is available at the studio, so no need to bring your own. Wear something you can move and breathe easily in. If you don’t have a mat, let us know when you book and we can help. We recommend leaving valuables at home.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, booking your practice time in advance helps us hold space for you. You can book a class or a private session online, or reach out directly if you have questions before your first visit.

What is the difference between Open Studio, a Mysore class, and a Led class?

Open Studio is a silent space for personal meditation or yoga practice without formal instruction. A Mysore class includes a teacher present to guide and adjust your practice individually, moving through the room at your own pace. A Led class follows a teacher calling out the sequence together as a group, with everyone moving in unison.

Do you offer private yoga lessons?

Yes. Private sessions are available with Natalia Correa and our team of teachers, for students who want personalized instruction, whether beginning a practice, working with an injury, or deepening an existing one. Depending on your needs and goals, we can find the perfect fit.

What is the apprenticeship program?

The apprenticeship is a mentorship-based path for serious students who want to study Ashtanga yoga in depth, rooted in the lineage of Krishnamacharya, Pattabhi Jois, and Sharath Jois. It combines close study with Natalia alongside supervised teaching experience.

Who teaches at Ashtanga Yoga Squamish?
