Aisha Daryanani
My Yoga journey began from a young age, growing up around yoga philosophy and the teachings of Mata Amritanandamayi. However, I didn't take an interest until I discovered Ashtanga Yoga at age 18 through my teacher Matias Flury. I have been learning and evolving in my practice for over 10 years since, furthering my knowledge in teaching with BNS Iyengar and Ramesh Shetty in Mysore and Natalia Correa in Squamish. Yoga has proven to be a reliable pillar of support for me through all phases of life and it is always an honour sharing its knowledge with students.
Pilar Lascar
I started my yoga journey at 15, practicing Iyengar with my best friend's mother, who planted a seed that continues to grow. Years later, a coincidental entry into an Ashtanga class, where I was fascinated by hands-on adjustments, deepened my practice. Eventually, I moved to Squamish, BC, began an apprenticeship at ASY, and now teach there passionately, using my intuition to adjust and work with students' varying abilities. I am a mother to a beautiful boy who inspires me daily, and I spend much of my time with him in the forest, river, and garden, nurturing my love for nature, sports, and family.
Olessia Axenova
Hi, I’m Olessia! I’m really excited to meet you and support you with your practice. Yoga has given me so much over the years, and I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned and helping you find your own path on this journey.
I’ve practiced yoga for nearly two decades, exploring different traditions and styles, but in 2020, I discovered Ashtanga and have been with it ever since. Like life, my practice has had its ups and downs, but I continue showing up because it helps me feel grounded. Yoga shows me where I get in my own way and helps me move through life a little lighter and with a little more ease and grace.
I’ve also sat in several meditation courses, and I bring that awareness into my teaching. As a practicing psychotherapist, I’m fascinated by the mind-body connection and spirituality. It is my intention to meet you in the space where the heavens meet the earth, where the body, mind, and spirit meet.
Sharan Sumal
Sharan grew up in the Hatha tradition and trained in the Iyengar lineage. Her personal practice is now rooted in Ashtanga, and her approach remains grounded in Eastern philosophy.
With eight years of experience in mental health and addictions, and ongoing crisis response training, she teaches from a trauma-informed perspective that emphasizes nervous system awareness and personal agency.
After more than a decade as an executive in media and technology, Sharan stepped away from corporate leadership to realign with her ethics and values. Her recent years have been devoted to restoring balance - in practice and in life.
She is also a mother, writer, former athlete, and climber. Yoga, for her, is not separate from life. It is a practice of regulation, discernment, and returning.
Valentina Balart
For Valentina, yoga is life itself — a practice of listening deeply, accepting all the waves, and returning again and again to presence. After years of moving in and out of practice, a journey to India seven years ago changed everything: she immersed herself in yoga, Ayurveda, and meditation, and breathed it in fully. Two years ago, Ashtanga at ASY reshaped her relationship with the practice into a new level of consciousness and daily presence. Her background as a dance therapist, combined with years of working with children and teenagers in nature-based programs, allows her to weave together conscious movement, play, and emotional self-regulation. She is passionate about sharing practices that blend yoga, creativity, and authentic connection with people of all ages.
